Oh hey, August

August was a tough month for us last year. We lost my aunt, and that heartbreak is still so tender. I’ve never dreaded and looked forward to a month so much. My Aunt passed on August 29th, and I plan to take that day off. I just can’t imagine going through an actual workday with that on my heart. How do you all handle the death anniversary of a loved one when you are at work? Does it get easier? Please share your tips below.

On a lighter note, there are some things I am excited about this month. With a new month comes new possibilities and opportunities. Also, two of my favorite people were born in August, my mom, and my husband.

Also, by the end of this month, I should have two certifications under my belt, leaving me with one more certification to finish by the end of the year. My motto is work hard, play harder- and this summer I definitely did both! I am ready to crush these August goals as we say goodbye to a hot and fun summer! Check out some of the fun I had this summer!

August marks the end of summer and the beginning of school for most of the kiddos.

Parents now is the time to get back on track with those goals that may have been put on the back burner due to summer vacations and schedules.

Here are some end-of-summer goals you can work on in the next 60 days.

  • Revamp your resume

  • Learn the power of LinkedIn and refresh your LinkedIn with the items below:

    • New certifications

    • Recommendations from trusted peers

    • Endorsements from trusted peers

    • New jobs and job duties

    • Achievements/Accomplishments

    • Community work/volunteerism

  • Add more connections to your LinkedIn profile including industry recruiters and talent management professionals.

  • Create a digital portfolio of your great works and projects (you can do this via a personal website or landing page).

  • Create a workout/fitness schedule (even if this means walking around the track at your kid’s sports practices).

  • Go back to therapy

  • Refresh those financial goals and get back to saving.

My advice is to think about what you want to have accomplished by Dec 31st and work backwards.
